FINANCIAL AID AT PREMIER BARBER INSTITUTE

If you’re passionate about the barbering industry but worry that the cost will hold you back, there are a variety of ways to pay for school at Premier Barber Institute! As an accredited school in Norristown, Pennsylvania, we can offer federal financial aid, available to those who qualify for our Barber Program, Barber Crossover Program, and Barber Teacher Program barbering programs. But there are other options available, too!

As a first step, you can fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA®) to see what you may qualify for. It’s often required for other types of financial help, so it’s a good idea to apply, even if you might not use it for federal financial assistance.

TYPES OF FINANCIAL AID AVAILABLE

Federal Aid

Title IV funding includes a variety of different grant or loan options. Some financial aid options are required to be paid back, while others don’t! The most common federal aid options are:

  • Pell Grants
  • Direct Subsidized Loans
  • Direct Unsubsidized Loans

Pell Grants are the most common grants and they don’t need to be paid back. Subsidized and unsubsidized loans do need to be paid back, however, for subsidized loans, you don’t have to pay back interest if you meet certain criteria. For unsubsidized loans, you do need to pay back interest, but all students qualify for this type of loan, regardless of financial need, making it a viable option to help pay for your barbering education.

PHEAA Loan

After filling out the FAFSA® you may want to consider applying for a loan through the Pennsylvania Higher Education Assistance Agency (PHEAA). These types of loans are flexible and may cover additional costs that weren’t covered by a Pell Grant or other aid options. As a first step, you will need to fill out the FAFSA® first, but from there, they can provide you with additional funds that you can pay back in manageable installments.

Scholarships

You may be eligible for scholarships outside of financial aid, too! We recommend looking for scholarships for barber schools and applying for as many scholarships as you may be eligible for. You can search for scholarships in your area or use resources like Beauty Changes Lives to see what you may qualify for.

Some scholarships are available for current students while others are for individuals before starting school, so it’s never too early or late to start looking for and applying for scholarships! Most scholarships while you’re in school require photos or videos of your work, so it’s a great opportunity to start building your portfolio.

Payment Plans

For anything that is not covered through financial aid or scholarships, we are happy to work with you to create a payment plan that works for you to finish paying off school by the time you graduate. During the application process, we’ll talk further about what financial aid options you qualify for and balance the payment plan based on what fees may be left over from other funding sources.

HOW TO APPLY FOR FEDERAL AID

To see what you may qualify for, the first step is to fill out the FAFSA®. This application is completely free, so even if you don’t think you qualify, we recommend still filling it out, as it provides us information that can make the enrollment process a little easier.

1. Fill out the FAFSA®
We recommend that you fill out the FAFSA® as soon as you plan on applying to post-secondary education, including barbering school. You can fill out the application entirely online or using their free app.

First, determine if you’re considered a dependent or independent student. You are considered independent if you:

  • Are over 24 years of page
  • Are married
  • Have children who receive more than half of their support from you
  • Have other dependents that receive more than half of their support from you
  • Are currently serving on active duty in the U.S. armed forces
  • Are a veteran
  • Meet other requirements set by the Federal Student Aid Office

As an independent individual, you do not need your parent’s information to fill out your application. If you do not meet any of these requirements and are considered a dependent student, you will need your parent’s tax and income information to submit your application.

When you’ve filled out everything in the application, make sure to use our school code: 042523

Using our school code means your information will be sent directly to us, and we’ll be reaching out to you to schedule your tour in Norristown and answer any questions you may have about starting barbering school in Pennsylvania.
